Signs You Have Limiting Beliefs (That Are Holding You Back)

You know that feeling when you try to change something…
and for a while, it looks like it’s working?

You’re thinking differently.
Showing up differently.
Doing all the things you’re “meant” to do.

And then, out of nowhere… you’re back there again.

Same habits.
Same reactions.
Same situations you thought you’d already outgrown.

And it doesn’t make sense.

Because you know better now.
You’ve done the work.

So why does it keep happening?

That’s the part most people don’t understand.

It’s not that you’re not trying hard enough.
It’s not that there’s something wrong with you.

It’s that something underneath… hasn’t actually changed.

Why This Keeps Happening (Even When You’re Trying)

The reason this feels so frustrating is because it seems like something you should be able to change.

It looks like something you could fix if you just approached it the right way, stayed consistent enough, or finally figured out what you’re doing wrong. So naturally, that’s where your focus goes. You try to change your behaviour, your habits, or the way you think about things, because that’s what you’ve been told will create change.

And to be fair, that’s not wrong. But it’s also not the full picture.

Because most of what you’re doing is working from the top down.

You’re trying to change what you can see - your actions, your thoughts, your responses - hoping that something underneath will eventually shift with it.

But if what’s underneath hasn’t actually changed, it will keep pulling you back into the same patterns.

That’s why you can be doing everything “right” and still not getting the result you expect. It’s not because you’re missing something obvious, or because you’re not trying hard enough. It’s because the thing creating the pattern isn’t something you’ve been shown how to work with directly.

And over time, that can start to feel like this is just how it is - like things are meant to be hard, or like you just need to push through it.

But it’s not actually meant to feel like that.

When you’re working from the bottom up - changing what’s happening underneath instead of constantly trying to manage what’s on the surface - things don’t require the same level of force, effort, or constant correction. Change feels different. It feels more natural, more stable, and not like something you have to keep fighting to maintain.

What This Actually Comes Back To

What you’re experiencing usually comes back to something much deeper than habits or mindset.

It comes back to limiting beliefs.

Sometimes those beliefs are exactly what you’d expect, like “I’m not good enough” or “I can’t do this.” But the thing is, they don’t always show up as clear thoughts like that.

A lot of the time, they show up through your behaviour instead.

You might find yourself procrastinating on something you actually care about, overthinking decisions that should feel simple, or pulling back right as things start to go well. And when you look at it on the surface, it doesn’t always make sense.

But underneath it, there’s usually a belief driving it.

Something like not feeling good enough, not feeling safe, or expecting things not to work out.

Because that belief is sitting underneath everything, it ends up shaping how you think, how you react, what you expect, and what you allow - often without you even realising it.

So even when you’re consciously trying to change, there’s still a part of you operating from a completely different place.

And that’s what creates the disconnect.

You can want something on the surface…
and still be wired against it underneath.

The Signs You’re Dealing With Limiting Beliefs

A lot of the time, this doesn’t show up in obvious ways.

It shows up in how you move through your life.

You might find yourself putting things off - not because you don’t care, but because something about it feels heavier than it should. Or you start something, feel good about it, and then slowly lose momentum. You might overthink decisions you already know the answer to, or pull back right as things start to go well.

Other times, it’s more subtle than that. It’s the way you expect things to play out. The way part of you assumes it won’t work, or won’t last, even if you’re trying to stay positive on the surface.

And over time, these patterns can start to feel normal. Like that’s just how you are, or how life tends to go for you.

I’ve seen this with clients too. I had one client who wanted to start a business and share her story on Instagram, but she kept procrastinating on it. When we worked together, we cleared a faulty belief system underneath that pattern, and over the next weeks she started naturally showing up and posting her story on Instagram, without the struggle.

That’s usually the difference. When the belief underneath changes, the behaviour doesn’t need to be forced in the same way.

Why Most Approaches Don’t Fully Work

Most approaches focus on what you can see - your thoughts, your habits, and your behaviour. And again, that’s not wrong. It makes sense why people start there.

But it also means you’re trying to create change from the top down.

You’re adjusting how you think, how you act, and how you respond, hoping that something underneath will eventually shift with it. And sometimes, it does create change in the short term. You might feel more motivated, more focused, or more in control for a while.

But if the belief underneath hasn’t actually changed, those patterns tend to come back.

Not because you’ve failed, but because the root of it is still there.

So you end up in this cycle of trying, improving, slipping back, and starting again. And over time, that can start to feel exhausting - like no matter what you do, nothing really sticks.

This doesn’t mean those approaches are useless. It just means they’re incomplete on their own.

Because real, lasting change doesn’t come from only changing what you do. It comes from changing what’s underneath it.

What Happens When You Change the Belief

When the belief underneath changes, things don’t feel as hard anymore.

You’re not constantly trying to manage yourself or push against resistance just to get basic things done. The same situations that used to feel heavy, frustrating, or draining start to feel more neutral, or even easy.

It’s not that your whole life suddenly becomes perfect or changes overnight.

But your response to things shifts in a way that actually sticks.

You might notice you stop overthinking decisions that used to take up so much energy, or you follow through on things without needing to force yourself. Situations that used to trigger the same reactions just don’t hit in the same way anymore.

And a lot of the time, it happens without you needing to consciously think about it.

You’re not constantly reminding yourself to be different or trying to override old patterns. You just start showing up differently, because the thing that was creating those patterns isn’t there in the same way anymore.

That’s why this kind of change feels more stable.

It’s not something you have to keep working at every day just to maintain. It becomes your new baseline, rather than something you’re constantly battling against.

Working With What’s Underneath

This is exactly what we focus on inside Body Code, Emotion Code and Belief Code sessions.

Instead of trying to manage patterns on the surface, we work directly with what’s underneath them - identifying and clearing the belief systems and imbalances that are actually driving the way you think, feel, and respond.

You don’t need to figure it all out beforehand or explain everything in detail.

Your subconscious guides the session, so we’re working with what your body is ready to release, rather than trying to force change from the outside.

And because of that, the changes tend to feel more natural.

You’re not constantly trying to be different or keep yourself on track. Things start to shift in a way that actually lasts, because the root of the pattern has been addressed.

If you’re reading this and recognising yourself in it, there’s usually a reason for that.

If you want to approach this differently, you can learn more about how the Body Code works below, or book a session when you’re ready.
