Morning Sickness and the Body Code: The Surprising Results

Morning sickness might be considered a normal part of pregnancy. I don't think that means you should automatically accept feeling nauseous every day for weeks or months.

I've worked with several pregnant clients who came to me specifically because they were struggling with morning sickness, particularly nausea. In most of these cases, their nausea significantly reduced within just one or two Body Code sessions.

So when I'm told morning sickness is simply something women have to put up with during pregnancy, that's not how I see it anymore.

And I'm far from the only Body Code practitioner seeing this. Research conducted in Japan has reported significant improvements in morning sickness following just three remote Body Code sessions.

What actually causes morning sickness?

Morning sickness affects a huge number of women during pregnancy and, despite the name, nausea and vomiting can happen at any time of the day.

From a Body Code perspective, however, I'm less interested in giving every case of morning sickness the same explanation.

Two women can experience exactly the same symptom for completely different underlying reasons.

The Body Code is designed to identify imbalances within six main areas: energies, circuitry and systems, toxicity, nutrition and lifestyle, misalignments, and pathogens. Within those areas are many different possibilities, including trapped emotions, energetic imbalances and other factors that may be contributing to what someone is experiencing.

This is why I don't start a session by deciding that pregnancy nausea must be caused by one particular imbalance.

The nausea is our starting point. From there, I use muscle testing and the Body Code to ask the body what needs to be addressed and allow it to guide the session.

The Body Code's very different explanation

One of the most consistent things I've found when working with morning sickness is an energetic disconnection between mum and baby.

This is also consistent with what Body Code founder Dr Bradley Nelson has observed. He has discussed disconnections between a mother and her developing baby as an imbalance that can show up in cases of morning sickness.

In my own sessions, it shows up almost every time I work with pregnancy nausea.

It's rarely the only thing the body wants to address. I've often found other imbalances alongside the disconnection, and exactly what comes up is different for every client. But the consistency of that mother-baby disconnection has been difficult for me to ignore, particularly when I've then seen nausea significantly reduce after the session.

This doesn't mean I go into a session assuming I already know what needs to be corrected. One of the fundamental principles behind the way I use the Body Code is that anything can cause anything. I still allow the client's body to lead the session through muscle testing rather than deciding intellectually what should come up.

But after seeing the same pattern repeatedly in pregnant clients experiencing morning sickness, it's something I find particularly interesting.

The Body Code gives us a very different way of looking at the symptom. Instead of asking only, "How do we stop the nausea?", we can ask, "What is your body telling us needs to be addressed?"

Sometimes, the answer appears to involve the energetic connection between mum and baby themselves.

The Body Code morning sickness study

What's particularly interesting is that Body Code work for morning sickness has also been studied.

Research conducted in Japan investigated the effects of a specific Body Code Morning Sickness Protocol on pregnant women experiencing nausea and vomiting.

Participants received three remote Body Code sessions over a period of 6 to 10 days.

The results were striking.

Among participants with post-session data, 84.6% reported an improvement in their morning sickness.

Average nausea severity decreased by approximately 55%, from 5.44 out of 10 before the sessions to 2.46 afterwards.

Before the sessions, 42.1% reported experiencing nausea or vomiting more than five times per day. After the sessions, that figure was just 7.7%.

The research also looked at the impact morning sickness was having on everyday life. Before the Body Code sessions, 40.4% reported that their symptoms severely interfered with normal daily functioning. Afterwards, that dropped to 7.7%.

For three remote sessions completed in little more than a week, those are results worth paying attention to.

What I've seen with morning sickness in my own clients

The research caught my attention because I've seen a similar pattern in my own practice.

I've worked remotely with several pregnant clients experiencing morning sickness, with ongoing nausea being the main symptom they've wanted me to address. In most of these cases, the nausea was significantly reduced within just one or two Body Code sessions.

Although the mother-baby disconnection has appeared with surprising consistency, I've also found other imbalances alongside it. That's exactly why I don't use a predetermined morning sickness protocol or assume that every woman's body needs the same thing.

Two people can come to me with seemingly identical symptoms and have completely different things arise during their sessions.

The symptom gives us somewhere to begin. The body determines where we go from there.

Why the remote aspect is particularly interesting

When you're already nauseous, exhausted and struggling to get through the day, getting dressed and travelling somewhere for another appointment may be the last thing you want to do.

Body Code work doesn't require that.

My sessions are completely remote, with no phone or video appointment. After booking, you complete an intake form telling me what you'd like me to work on. I then use myself as a proxy to muscle test on behalf of your subconscious, complete the session remotely and send you a detailed written report explaining everything that came up.

You don't even need to be available while I'm working.

The fact that the Japanese morning sickness research also used remote Body Code sessions makes the findings particularly relevant to the way I work with my own clients.

Can the Body Code help with morning sickness?

From what I've seen repeatedly in my own clients, my answer is yes, I believe the Body Code can be incredibly valuable for morning sickness.

Pregnancy creates enormous changes throughout the body, but I don't believe experiencing a symptom automatically means you have to resign yourself to it simply because it's common.

I've seen nausea significantly reduce within one or two sessions. I've repeatedly seen the mother-baby energetic disconnection appear when working on it. Other Body Code practitioners have observed the same pattern, and research using remote Body Code sessions has reported significant improvements too.

You don't need to work out what's causing your morning sickness before we begin.

We start with what you're experiencing, ask your body what it wants to address, and follow where it leads.

If you're pregnant and struggling with morning sickness, you can book a remote Body Code session with BEM Healing. There's no appointment or call required, and your personalised session report is delivered privately by email.

Body Code sessions are complementary wellbeing services and are not medical or psychological treatment. During pregnancy, continue working with your doctor, midwife or other healthcare professional for appropriate pregnancy care.
